Love can be a fickle thing, and in Hollywood, fans tend to celebrate when a celeb couple manages to stay together for not just years, but decades.

Thus, it’s always a bit of a disappointment when those long-hauler A-list couples end up getting divorced; if love can’t survive the entertainment industry, can it really survive at all? Philosophical questions aside, there are still some celebrity marriages that have been able to stand the test of time — and the test of fame — like celebrity lifestyle guru Ina Garten and her husband Jeffrey, who have been together for over 50 years; or Jeff and Susan Bridges, who are still going strong after more than four decades.

But not every high-profile romance is meant for a happily ever after. Ahead, Entertainment Weekly takes a look at 12 couples who divorced after a still-impressive two decades of marriage.

Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus

“Achy Breaky Heart” singer Billy Ray Cyrus and wife Tish met in 1991 and were married two years later. They share three children: Miley, Braison, and Noah. They first filed for divorce in 2010. Though it was ultimately called off, a second attempt came in 2013, followed by a third in 2022. That announcement ultimately stuck.

That same year, Billy Ray became engaged to girlfriend Firerose, and the following year, Tish announced her own engagement to actor Dominic Purcell, of Prison Break fame. Billy Ray and Tish married their respective partners within two months of each other in 2023.

In an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast in 2024, Tish opened up about why she and Billy Ray finally decided to call it quits. “It had not been in a good place for a long time,” she admitted. “I think I did stay so long out of fear. Literal fear of being alone. I met him when I [was] 24. So I, like, grew up… he was such a huge part of that.”

King of Queens star Leah Remini and her husband of 21 years, Angelo Pagán, jointly announced that they would be getting a divorce in 2024.

“After 28 years together and 21 years of marriage, we have decided to file for divorce,” the two penned in a joint Instagram post. “So, the big question — why? To put it simply, we both changed, as people do, and we got used to playing roles that didn’t fit us anymore.”

However, they insisted that the split was entirely cordial: “We’ve been best friends for so many years. We are still celebrating holidays together, watching our favorite TV shows together, and gathering as a family.”

“Our bond is still strong — it’s just evolved into something different,” they wrote. The couple shares one daughter, Sofia, and co-parented Pagán’s three sons from a prior relationship.

Harrison Ford and Melissa Mathison

Star Wars icon Harrison Ford officially finalized his divorce from screenwriter Melissa Mathison in 2004, after 21 years of marriage. However, news first broke that the two were separating in 2000, in an article from ABC News that alleged Ford was already getting close to Twin Peaks actress Lara Flynn Boyle.

Mathison was Ford’s second wife; they met in 1976 on the set of Apocalypse Now. However, at the time, he was still married to his first wife, Mary Marquardt, so the two did not begin dating until a few years later, tying the knot in 1983. They share two children together.

Per Forbes, their separation is one of the most expensive celebrity divorces of all time, and Mathison ended up walking away with an $85 million settlement.

Mel Gibson and Robyn Moore

In December 2011, Mel Gibson finalized his divorce from wife Robyn Moore after a little over 30 years of marriage. The two were married in their native Australia in 1980 and share seven children together. However, the couple first separated in 2006, after Gibson’s arrest for drunk driving, during which he made anti-Semitic remarks.

Moore sued Gibson for divorce in 2009, citing irreconcilable differences. That followed Gibson’s relationship with then-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, with whom he fathered a child.

In the end, Gibson lost half of his $850 million fortune to Robyn in the divorce.

Martha Stewart and Andrew Stewart

Businesswoman and television personality Martha Stewart was married to husband Andrew Stewart for 26 years, from 1961 to 1987, before the two finalized their divorce in 1990. Unfortunately, their separation was anything but amicable.

In an interview with PEOPLE in 1995, Stewart’s mother, Martha Kostyra, explained that the difficult divorce left her daughter “badly wounded,” adding, “I don’t think she’ll ever get over it.”

However, Martha told the publication in 2020 that despite the hardship, she was ready for change. “Getting divorced was a terrible thing for me, because we were the first to divorce in my family,” Martha said. “And that we haven’t spoken since the divorce is even more painful. But I’m very strong, and I’m very motivated to get on with life.”

Today, Stewart, 85, wears single well, admitting on a 2025 episode of Today With Jenna & Friends that she gets “lots of people” sliding into her DMs. She did date the great Anthony Hopkins at one point, though admitted she broke it off because she couldn’t stop seeing him as his iconic character Hannibal Lecter.

Jane Seymour and James Keach

Actress and onetime Bond girl Jane Seymour married husband James Keach in 1993, sharing twin sons together. Keach was Seymour’s fourth and longest marriage, with Seymour being Keach’s third. The two had been together for 20 years when they announced their intent to divorce in 2013.

“They will continue their relationship as devoted parents to their children, as business associates and partners, and in their joint dedication to preserving and furthering the charitable endeavors that they’ve worked on throughout their marriage,” the statement announcing their separation read. The two finalized their divorce in 2015.

Hulk Hogan and Linda Hogan

The late Hulk Hogan separated from his first wife Linda in 2007 and finalized their divorce in 2009. In the 2026 Netflix docuseries Hulk Hogan: Real American, newly revealed footage saw Hogan getting candid about his mental health struggles following his divorce.

Hogan had married Linda in 1983 and shared two children, Brooke and Nick. Together, the family had starred in the 2000s reality series Hogan Knows Best.

In the divorce, Hogan gave Linda a massive settlement that left him broke. “I hit rock bottom,” he said in the doc. “I gave Linda 70 percent of everything because I just didn’t want to ever talk to her again, be with her. I never wanted to see her again. So, I gave her everything to get rid of her and after the divorce I had no money.”

At the time, he had done a notorious interview with Rolling Stone in which he said he “could have turned everything into a crime scene, like O.J. [Simpson], cutting everybody’s throat,” referring to his ex-wife. The fallout from the interview left him suicidal.

“I went home, I started drinking and started eating pills, and I just went down this rabbit hole for a couple of days,” he said in the final episode of the docuseries. “Next thing I know, I’m sitting in front of my bathroom with a gun in my mouth and not knowing what I was doing, you know?”

Neil Diamond and Marcia Murphey

“Sweet Caroline” rocker Neil Diamond was married to production assistant Marcia Murphey from 1969 to 1996 — in fact, she was the inspiration behind “Sweet Caroline.” Diamond had changed her name in the song because he couldn’t find a good rhyme for Marcia.

The two divorced after over 25 years of marriage, but the divorce couldn’t have gone better for Murphey. The separation was notable for its hefty $150 million price tag — half of Diamond’s fortune, all of which went to Murphey. However, the divorce was clearly friendly: Diamond apparently admitted (via Forbes) that his ex-wife was “worth every penny.”

Robert Redford and Lola Van Wagenen

Prior to wedding Sibylle Szaggars — to whom he was married at the time of his death in 2025 — Robert Redford had once been married for nearly 30 years. His first wife, Lola Van Wagenen, married Redford when she was still in college and he was in his early 20s. When they wed in 1958, they only had $300 in their bank account.

This was just as Redford’s career began to take off. Together, they had three children, including a firstborn who tragically died of sudden infant death syndrome in 1959. But after more than two decades together, the spouses decided to part ways by the mid-’80s.

“It was mutual and it was right to move on. We still have great love, great affection, great friendship. It is wonderful, and I think we probably deserve credit for it because the kids are great, they came through it OK,” Redford told The Telegraph in 2001. “I never wanted to be one of those divorced showbusiness casualties - so predictable! I wanted to prove that a marriage could last and prove the business wrong. But I couldn’t.”

Rachel Zoe and Rodger Berman

After 26 years together, stylist-to-the-stars Rachel Zoe decided to leave husband Rodger Berman, a decision she admitted to PEOPLE should have been done “sooner.”

Zoe, who filed for divorce in July 2025, said, “I was done. I was really done. I don’t suffer from guilt of not having given it everything I could have. I don’t suffer from that, and I don’t suffer from feeling like it was a failed marriage. Having been married for 26 years, I would say that three-quarters of that was amazing.”

The two met in 1991 and married in 1998, going on to share two sons together. However, leading up to the divorce, Zoe admitted they had become different people.

“I started to feel like this may not be the most advantageous situation for our children,” she explained. “For me for the last 14 years, literally every breath I take is for my kids. So every decision I make, every lens that I look through is through a lens of my children, of what are they going to think? What are they going to say? How will this affect them? I have never felt that people should live together and stay together unhappy.”

Wendy Williams and Kevin Hunter

Talk show host Wendy Williams divorced her husband of 21 years, Kevin Hunter, after it was uncovered that he’d fathered a child with another woman during their marriage. The two met in 1994 and were married in 1997, welcoming one son, Kevin Jr., in 2000.

In the 2024 documentary Where Is Wendy Williams?, which set out to detail the star’s present health and financial struggles, the doc also dug into Williams’ fraught divorce. Speaking in the documentary herself, Williams said coldly of Hunter, “I don’t care about him or that baby.”

Williams’ niece, Alex, spoke to PEOPLE about the toll the divorce took on her aunt. “[Williams’ mom] Shirley, may she rest in peace, would always remind me that your aunt would trade everything that she has — every dime, every car, every wig — to be able to have a strong loving household and a loving husband,” she said.

“That was ripped from her right after her son had to go off to college [in 2018],” Alex continued. “Emotionally, it was just a lot. It was too much for her world.”

Reba McEntire and Narvel Blackstock

Reba McEntire and her husband Narvel Blackstock divorced in October 2015 after nearly 30 years of marriage, and McEntire opened up one year later about how the divorce wasn’t actually her idea.

“I didn’t want it in any shape, form or fashion,” McEntire told CMT’s Cody Allen (via Entertainment Tonight). “So, it was really hard to make the adjustment when someone’s not happy. I just want everybody to be happy in their lives, because our lives are too short to be miserable.”

“I just thought it was the best thing to take my marbles and go play somewhere else, is what daddy used to always say,” she added.

At the time, McEntire had shared their separation statement on her website, which read, “Despite this being the end of their marriage, they continue to support each other. They have worked together for 35 years and will continue to do so. They have asked that you respect their privacy during this time.”
