Marshals has strong ties to its parent series, Yellowstone.

The CBS series, which premiered in March 2026 and is currently in its second season, follows Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) as he joins an elite team of U.S. Marshals in Montana. Drawing on his experience as a Navy SEAL and cowboy, Kayce takes on dangerous missions while building a new life with his son, Tate (Brecken Merrill), at East Camp — the small piece of land he kept for his family after selling the Yellowstone Ranch to the Broken Rock Reservation.

Kayce also maintains close ties to Broken Rock, frequently crossing paths with the reservation’s chairman, Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham), and his right-hand man, Mo (Mo Brings Plenty).

Season 2 will also see Jefferson White reprise his Yellowstone role as Jimmy Hurdstrom. But the characters who haven’t returned aren’t forgotten. Marshals frequently references familiar faces and memorable moments from the original series.

Here are all the Yellowstone Easter eggs spotted in Marshals, so far.

Warning: Yellowstone and Marshals spoilers ahead.

Jamie Dutton’s disappearance is mentioned

Jamie Dutton’s (Wes Bentley) disappearance is mentioned in the Marshals series premiere, with Belle (Arielle Kebbel) noting that the former Montana attorney general is still missing.

In season 1, episode 2, Andrea (Ash Santos) directly questions Kayce about his brother’s whereabouts. While Kayce remains tight-lipped, Yellowstone viewers know that Beth (Kelly Reilly) killed Jamie in the series finale and Rip (Cole Hauser) disposed of his body at the Train Station.

Kayce Dutton makes a call to Travis Wheatley

In season 1, episode 5, Kayce mentions Travis Wheatley, the horse trainer in Texas, played by Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan.

After Monica Dutton’s (Kelsey Asbille) horse injures Tate, Kayce struggles to find a buyer for the animal. He eventually tells his son, “I’m gonna call Travis. Find a home for this bronc.”

Kayce ultimately decides not to sell the horse given its ties to his late wife.

Rip Wheeler gets a shout-out

Rip gets a shout-out in season 1, episode 2. While on a fishing trip, Tate asks Kayce who will look after East Camp now that he’s working as a U.S. Marshal.

“Rip found some hands ‘til I can find a more permanent solution,” Kayce responds.

In the Yellowstone series finale, Rip, who is married to Kayce’s sister, Beth, promised to help his brother-in-law whenever he needed it.

The infamous Train Station is mentioned

The Train Station from Yellowstone is referenced several times in Marshals, most notably in season 1, episodes 2 and 11.

In episode 2, Kayce returns to the remote Wyoming wilderness where the Dutton family secretly disposed of bodies. His new boss, Harry Gifford (Brett Cullen), questions him about his family’s history in the area, but Kayce denies knowing anything. Later, Kayce throws a dead suspect into a ravine, echoing his family’s past actions.

The Train Station is mentioned more explicitly in episode 11. While stranded in a blizzard, escaped convict and former Yellowstone ranch hand Neil Lamb (Sterling Jones) tells Cal (Logan Marshall-Green) about the Dutton family’s dark secrets.

After learning about the location, Cal confronts Kayce, saying, “Tell me about the Train Station.” Kayce eventually confirms that it’s real, and Cal agrees to keep the secret.

Kayce repeats a threat from Yellowstone

In the Marshals season 2 premiere, Kayce repeats a threat he previously made in Yellowstone.

After Tom Weaver (Chris Mulkey) kidnaps Tate, Kayce confronts Weaver’s daughter, Dolly (Ellyn Jameson), at gunpoint. When Dolly tells Kayce that he’s scaring her, he responds, “You should be scared.”

It’s identical to a line Kayce delivered in Yellowstone season 5, episode 12. In that episode, Kayce confronts Grant Horton (Matt Gerald), the man responsible for arranging his father John Dutton’s (Kevin Costner) murder. Kayce holds Grant and his young daughter at gunpoint, telling the frightened girl, “You should be scared.”

Kayce’s Yellowstone brand makes an appearance

Kayce’s Yellowstone Ranch brand makes an appearance in Marshals season 2, episode 4.

The episode opens with a nightmare in which a teenage Kayce (Berlin Enrique Nelson) applies burn cream to the freshly branded “Y” on his chest.

As revealed in Yellowstone season 1, episode 6, John personally branded Kayce after he refused to pressure Monica into getting an abortion when she became pregnant with Tate.

Beth and Jamie Dutton’s country club days are referenced

Beth and Jamie are mentioned again in Marshals season 2, episode 4, when Kayce and Belle visit a country club to question a fugitive’s ex-wife.

“Didn’t your family belong here?” Belle asks Kayce, who appears unfamiliar with the club.

“Brother and sister did,” he responds. “I was born for the barn, not the country club.”
