HBO's upcoming *Lanterns* series is just the beginning for John Stewart.
Aaron Pierre, known for *Rebel Ridge* and *Mufasa: The Lion King*, will reprise his DC Studios role in the *Superman* follow-up film, *Man of Tomorrow*. Pierre joins a cast that already includes David Corenswet as Kal-El/Clark Kent, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Lars Eidinger as Brainiac.
Audiences will first get to know Pierre as John Stewart, a Green Lantern in training, when the HBO TV drama premieres this August.

The series is inspired by the Green Lantern Corps., an intergalactic policing organization that safeguards sectors of the cosmos. A Lantern's chief weapon is the power ring. By sheer willpower, the object allows the user to fly and create virtually anything they can think of, from force fields to power blasts to structures to weapons and armor.
Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) is the veteran Lantern mentoring John, who's two months into his training and hasn't worn the ring yet. Together they investigate a murder in the American Heartland, which will have larger ripple effects for the bigger DC universe.

A trailer released for *Lanterns* earlier this month showcased the upcoming cast, including Garret Dillahunt as William Macon, described as a modern cowboy, and Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe, a potential love interest for John. We also know that Ulrich Thomsen will appear as Sinestro, a chief Green Lantern villain of DC Comics, and Nathan Fillion will reprise his *Superman* role of Guy Gardner, another member of the Corps.

*Man of Tomorrow*, meanwhile, is scheduled to open in movie theaters July 9, 2027. Written and directed by DC Studios co-head James Gunn, who also helmed *Superman*, the follow-up will see the Man of Steel teaming up with his adversary, Luthor, to take on a much greater threat, the highly intelligent cosmic menace known as Brainiac.
"It's as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie," Gunn told Howard Stern of the sequel last September. "I loved working with Nicholas Hoult. I relate to the character of Lex, sadly. I really wanted to create something extraordinary with the two of them. I just love the script so much."
