AJ Lee Isn’t Done With Wrestling, but There’s One Thing Holding Back Her WWE Return

AJ Lee’s WWE return was one of the most anticipated moments in recent wrestling history, but her second run with the company appears to be far from a full-time comeback. While the former Divas Champion has not appeared on WWE TV since WrestleMania 42, she isn’t ruling out another appearance.

The 39-year-old recently talked about her WWE future during an interview with iHeart Women’s Sports. Lee made it clear that she’s not interested in returning just for the sake of wrestling again.

AJ Lee addresses what it would take for her to return to WWE

AJ Lee’s biggest reason for another WWE return appears to be having a good story to tell. Although she remains confident in what she can do inside the ring, she explained that she is focused more on character and storytelling. The former WWE Divas Champion said she would be interested in returning if WWE gives her something new that she hasn’t done before.

“I mean, we’ll see. Like there was a piece in me was like, ‘Oh, I just need to, like, come back with this little time.’ And then when I did, I was like, ‘Oh, I’m still kind of killing it.’ So, I’m confident in what I can bring, but I feel like I’m also story-driven. And like, if there’s a story there, that’s going to be the thing that excites me. It feels like something new that I haven’t done and feels like breaking ground. I think that’s always what’s interesting to me. And yeah, so we will see. I’m just going to keep writing and working out and staying ready,” Lee said.

That could explain why fans have not seen her on WWE programming since WrestleMania 42. AJ has already reached a major milestone during her comeback by winning the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship. WWE would have to weigh up their options meticulously as the veteran has achieved pretty much everything possible in the WWE ring.
