At the 2025 Game Awards on Dec. 11, the world got its first preview of the upcoming Street Fighter. The short sneak peek packed a punch, featuring footage of the iconic video game characters coming to life to face off against one another.

Street Fighter — premiering in October 2026 — isn’t the first time the popular game franchise has been adapted for the big screen. A previous Street Fighter film, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Raúl Juliá, Kylie Minogue and others, was released in 1994.

According to the official plot description, per Deadline, Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are “estranged Street Fighters” who “are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury.”

The friends-turned-fighters learn of a “deadly conspiracy” lurking in the shadows of the competition, which “forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past,” the synopsis continues. “And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”
