The women of the 2011 hit *Bridesmaids* reunited at the 2026 Oscars, but not to announce the long-awaited sequel, unfortunately.
The reunion was for an equally good cause — celebrating the 15th anniversary of the iconic female-led comedy that taught everyone never to try new food before a very important dress-fitting appointment. Stars Rose Byrne, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, and Ellie Kemper took the stage together at Sunday night's ceremony, where they were met with thunderous applause.
The quintet gave a shoutout to their missing cast member, Wendi McLendon-Covey, before beginning to present the award for Best Score and Sound. But before they could get very far, the ladies were handed notes signed by several audience members, who took the opportunity to roast the comedians for "aging well" and having decent work done. Stellan Skarsgård was especially enthusiastic about how lovely they looked in person.

The reunion is especially sweet for Byrne, whose performance in the underground critical darling *If I Had Legs I'd Kick You* earned her first Oscar nod for Best Actress. She is up against Jessie Buckley (*Hamnet), *Kate Hudson (*Song Sung Blue*)*, *Renate Reinsve (*Sentimental Value*), and* *Emma Stone (*Bugonia*)*.*
Directed by Paul Feig, *Bridesmaids *tells the story of best friends Annie (Wiig) and Lillian (Rudolph), whose close bond is strained when Lillian gets engaged and asks Annie to be her maid of honor. Over the course of a raucous luncheon, bachelorette party, and extending even into the ceremony, Annie, Lillian, and the rest of the bridal party descend into a chaotic disorder fueled by drinking and underlying, unexpressed interpersonal tensions.
When ** gathered the cast and director Paul Feig in 2019 for an oral history of the film, Rudolph expressed genuine surprise over its mammoth success — including its pair of Oscar nominations (one for McCarthy, the other for Wiig and Mumolo's script) and $288 million global box office haul.

The comedy was hailed as a breakthrough for not only its main women characters but also for employing a screenplay written by women (Wiig and her *Barb & Star *castmate Annie Mumolo).

"By that point, I'd been so trained for disappointment in comedy that… it just didn't occur to me that it would actually be a hit," she said. "But the feeling was we were all laughing at each other, and we were all supporting each other. That's kind of all that mattered. That is sort of the dream."

Kemper added, "It felt like you were at camp. You were making a movie with your friends. I'm not saying that you can't have a special bond with a man, but the female bond felt very unique. It felt powerful."
