The Severance star reveals what she performed for her talent
Lower is gearing up for a busy 2026, with a nomination at the Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 11
Britt Lower is opening up about her unique holiday celebrations.
At the Golden Globes First-Time Nominee Celebration at The Maybourne in Beverly Hills on Dec. 17, the Severance star, 40, tells PEOPLE that she and her husband, British hairstylist Kenna Kennor, recently hosted friends at their home for their "annual Christmas pageant."
"It's a homemade variety show in my living room," says Lower. "And it's just my favorite, favorite, favorite day of the year where friends share talents, from reading poetry to drinking a glass of water, as their talent is hydration. I'm in the afterglow of that. It was just last weekend."
For her talent, Lower says she "set the bar really low at the beginning by playing a song on my ukulele that I have never rehearsed."
"I allow myself to make a fool of myself," she says. "It's just great fun being in the room with other people and sharing. It's lovely."
Lower adds that Christmas is her "favorite time of the year" and that she and Kennor are "not afraid to put the tree up in November."
"It was always a special holiday growing up, to take a rest from the year," she says. "We all work so hard, and it's time to exhale, right before we inhale."
Lower is gearing up for a busy 2026. At the upcoming Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 11, she will be up for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Drama, for her role playing Helly R./Helena Eagan in season 2 of Severance.

At the luncheon, she was joined by fellow first-time nominees, including her Severance costar Tramell Tillman, plus Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Monica Padman, Chase Infiniti, Eva Victor and Rhea Seehorn."It's a huge privilege to be named amongst these incredible artists right next to me," she tells PEOPLE. "I'm really just savoring it and taking it in."
As for what she learned about herself filming season 2 of Severance, Lower says, "I feel like I could answer this probably all day long."
"I think with any role, when you step into someone else's perspective, you gain empathy for their triumphs and their mistakes," she says. "My job as an actress is to really honor their journey, whether they're making the decisions that are best for them or not."
Lower adds that the show "is really such an exploration of what it is that makes us human."
"Sometimes our greatest enemies is that inner critic within, and that inner child is fighting to get out," she says. "So, I think any character I ever encounter from now on, I will think about those two sides and which one is allowed to have a voice."
