Caitlin Clark has become the face of the Indiana Fever, and perhaps even the WNBA itself, since being selected No. 1 overall in the 2024 Draft, and throughout her rise, LeBron James has consistently supported her journey.

James publicly backed Clark even before she entered the WNBA, congratulating her after she broke the NCAA’s all-time scoring record in 2024. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar continued supporting her when her rookie season got off to a slower-than-expected start and later reached out during an injury-plagued sophomore campaign.

Clark dealt with quad, groin, and ankle injuries that limited her to just 13 games last season, and James personally reached out to offer help. The two have since developed a close relationship, and now they even share a golf-related bucket list goal.

Speaking during an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews ahead of the season opener, Clark revealed that she and James often text about golf and hope to play together someday.

"We text about golf," she said. "That’s next on our bucket list, is to play golf together. I'm not sure either of us are too great and we might be chasing the ball a lot but I think like baskteball players just like the mental challenge of an individual sport like golf."

Clark also explained why James’ support has meant so much to her, noting that he understands the pressure and scrutiny that come with stardom better than almost anyone.

"LeBron has just been there to support me more than anything,” Clark said. “He understands the microscope that I’m under, and the spotlight that’s on me, and I think he just wants to be there for me more than anything. When I was hurt last year, he reached out and was like, ‘Is there any way I can help you? Is there anybody I can connect you with?’

“Just somebody that’s there trying to help you, trying to help make the game better, help you improve, and I think that’s a lot of our relationship now."

Following a historic rookie campaign, Clark was expected to take another major leap in 2025, but injuries disrupted much of her sophomore season. She still averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 8.8 assists, 1.6 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game while shooting 36.7% from the field and 27.9% from three-point range.

Now healthy and looking to bounce back, Clark and the Fever are set to open the 2026 season against the Dallas Wings at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
