Catherine Ebs and her husband, Raphael, have started the process of having many of their tattoos removed, as the influencer shared on TikTok this week
Her video on March 10 showed them going through the first stages of the lasering process, something Ebs said they've wanted to do for a while, having both gotten tattoos as teenagers
Speaking to PEOPLE, Ebs says she was surprised to receive a decent amount of critical feedback after sharing the "behind-the-scenes" of her long-awaited removal
Catherine Ebs and her husband, Raphael, are making big changes to their body art.
On Tuesday, March 10, Ebs posted a TikTok video to document their appointment to get some of their tattoos removed. As the influencer explained in her video, she planned to have 12 of her 15 lasered off, and Raphael wanted to lose both of his arm-sleeve tattoos. During their consultation, a specialist can be heard telling him he would need to come back "every couple weeks for a while" to have the treatment completed.
Meanwhile, Ebs, 29, had one tattoo on her finger that practically disappeared after one zap, as she was shocked to realize. Later in the video, she said the experience was "super simple" and "super easy." She added, "I actually am mad I didn't do it sooner."

The next day, she revisited the topic with another video responding to various critical messages and comments she received about the topic of her tattoo removal. In the TikTok shared on Wednesday, March 11, Ebs emphasized that she's wanted to make the change for a while.
"I've actually said multiple times how much I regret my tattoos. Why? Because when you're in Florida, you can start getting tattoos at 16. What 16-year-old has money for a decent tattoo, right?" she reflected. "Everyone at 16 years old went and started getting tattoos in high school. It was like a fad, and I was like, okay, I'll do it too."
Speaking to PEOPLE, Ebs says she's "feeling great" about her removal and still surprised by the "many mixed reviews" that followed her initial post.

“Ultimately, I wanted to share my process because I’ve seen ‘before and after’ photos, but no one really takes you along for the entire journey," she adds. "I wanted to bring people in real time so they could feel the entire experience and make an informed decision."
As for why she waited, Ebs admits she hadn't seen enough "behind-the-scenes" to be confident in the process, which served as another reason why she documented her experience as well as Raphael’s.
"I really wanted to be that for other people, especially because I thought the pain would be unbearable. Granted, it’s not comfortable, but neither is looking at tattoos every day that I don’t like,” says the New York City-based content creator.
In her TikTok addressing negative feedback, Ebs noted that her husband is in "the exact same situation," though he is keeping more of his existing body art.
"He grew up in Florida. He could start at 16 and the football team was getting tattoos," she said of her husband. Ebs said that he got many of his tattoos in places that were not official studios, and even though he acquired more "higher-end artwork" later in life, she said Raphael still plans to have it all lasered.
"If you remove the older ones that aren't done properly, you kind of have to remove all of it. So he was like, 'At this point, I'm just gonna take off my arms,'" said Ebs. "He's keeping all of his leg pieces, though. Those he got done later in life when he could afford them, and they look phenomenal."
