A Halloween meeting sparked a romance that has lasted 60 years for one couple.
Edmund and Evelyn Hicks from Bolton, England celebrated their diamond anniversary on Thursday, Oct. 22, and will even receive a congratulatory card from King Charles on the achievement, according to The Bolton News.
“It’s really special, isn’t it?,” Edmund told the outlet of the recognition. “It’s something my youngest daughter thought of, and she got in touch with them and arranged it. I just think it’ll be a nice finish with the rest of the cards.”
The couple met at 18 at a Halloween dance at the Horwich Conservative Club in Bolton and married two years later at Horwich Parish Church.
The couple marked the occasion with friends and family at a reception at a local pub. “All the family were there, all our friends and relatives,” Edmund said.
The pair are parents to three daughters and now have five grandchildren, who range in age from 9 to 22. They remain close with their family, as their daughters live nearby, and regularly get together to spend time with one another.

“Every day at least one of them calls round. We meet up every week and have a meal on a Wednesday and I bring my sister across as well, she’s 85 now,” Edmund told the Bolton News.
The couple are also avid travelers, and have been to places like Bali, Singapore and Tenerife in Spain. The latter is a place the couple particularly loves to visit.
“We must have been there 10 million times. We used to go for three months at a time,” he said. “We’ve started doing city breaks to Prague, Brussels and Krakow.”

But after six decades together, the couple’s secret to a lasting marriage may be a little simpler than a shared sense of adventure. When asked how to maintain a long and happy relationship, Edmund joked, “As far as I’m concerned, just accept you’re wrong on everything.”
He added, “Obviously we love each other and she’s right for me, that’s all I can say.”
