Former tennis player Eugenie Bouchard, who previously commented on the issue, was delighted to see the Spaniard making a subtle change to his outfit. She posted a photo of Alcaraz from his match and wrote:

Previously, Bouchard joked about Alcaraz’s outfit issue and said the Spaniard needs to rectify it.

The wardrobe adjustment didn’t affect Alcaraz, as the seven-time Grand Slam champion was easily able to defeat Wu 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 and advanced to the fourth round.

Carlos Alcaraz Speaks About Wardrobe Malfunction

Carlos Alcaraz’s wardrobe malfunction ignited a lot of chatter on social media. The Spaniard himself acknowledged the issue, saying:

“I felt like I could hide it at least for one match. I feel really comfortable with another shirt. So I think I’m going to stay like that.”

Alcaraz admitted he decided to initiate the change when asked if it was prompted by peer pressure.

“No, it was my decision,” he said. “I wouldn’t have minded playing like that again, but if we do something about it, it was good.”

Despite last playing in Barcelona in April, Alcaraz, who was out because of a wrist injury, doesn’t look rusty as he dispatched his first three opponents with ease. Even he was surprised by the fast recovery.

“I am feeling better and better after every match,” he said. “It feels like I have been competing the whole time. So it surprised me the way that I’m feeling and the way that I’m recovering after every match. I’m just really happy about how I’m able to perform at my best after every match. Doesn’t matter if I’m playing four or three sets. So I’m just really happy about it.”

With Jannik Sinner not playing and Novak Djokovic going out in the first round, Carlos Alcaraz has a great chance to defend his title at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Top seed Alexander Zverev remains in competition, but both of his first games have extended to five sets. Alcaraz will face Tommy Paul next.
