John Stamos is looking back at his time getting to know Bob Saget.
The actor, 62, recently reflected on his time on Full House during an appearance on Bobby Bones Presents: The Bobbycast.
Stamos explained how he looked forward to getting to work with Bob Saget and Dave Coulier on the family series because both of them had backgrounds in stand-up. āI love stand-up comedy. Iām obsessed with stand-up comedy,ā he said.
āI try to befriend any great comic out there. I canāt do it, but Iām fascinated by the structure, how you guys construct a joke ā the science, the math behind the economy of words,ā Stamos continued. āIām just fascinated by it. So getting to work with those guys was incredible from that standpoint.ā
What Stamos had a harder time with was the lack of focus on craft on the set, explaining, āAll they really cared about was making the crew laugh.ā
āI was coming from, I just did a show with Jack Klugman, whoās a famous sitcom guy, and so I was coming to it with more of an actorās point of view of these scenes and trying to work these scenes,ā the Palm Royale actor continued. āAnd the guys were just trying to make the guys, the crew, laugh and whatever that was about.ā
It particularly created frustrations for Stamos when it came to Saget, noting, āIt was distracting for a lot of it, and we didnāt get along at all for the first couple of years.ā
That would eventually change in the showās third year, after Stamos, Coulier and Saget were bonded by heartbreaking circumstances.

āBobās sister got scleroderma, which he spent the rest of his life advocating and raising money for this horrific disease. Daveās sister got cancer, and my sister was diagnosed with a brain tumor. And so all of a sudden, we werenāt three guys on a show. We were three brothers grieving our sisters,ā he continued, noting that while Coulierās sister and Sagetās sister both passed away, his sister survived.

āWe became really close then, and then we just realized that there was a lot to learn from each other, I think. And I had a lot to learn. I learned a lot from those guys,ā Stamos shared.
āBut then Bob, we just ended up being best friends,ā the actor continued. āAnd then we were just there for each other through all the ups and downs of life ā divorces and marriages. But I just loved him so dearly, and it was such a tragic loss.ā

On Jan. 9, 2022, the Full House star was found dead at the age of 65 in his hotel room at The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes in Florida.
While it was later discovered that Saget had suffered blunt head trauma following an unwitnessed fall, the immediate news of his death came as a shock to family, friends and fans around the world.
āJust one day, in a blink of an eye, he was gone. He was so bombastic with his love. He would text you 50 times a day and then call you 20 times to make sure you got the text, and then leave a message,ā Stamos recalled. āHe was that kind of guy, so losing him has been... life is just not as funny.ā
