āMortal Kombat IIā fought its way to the top of the box office on its opening day.
The fantasy film, a sequel toĀ the 2021 original, raked in $17 million Friday, according to Box Office Mojo.
The Post called the film ā the fourth installment in the franchise based on the popular video game ā āan onscreen bucket of slopā and āa migraine of nonstop fights and idiot characters.ā

However, it still managed to step right over āThe Devil Wears Prada 2,ā which moved down a notch to second, with $9.8 million in sales on its second Friday in theaters.
The sequel to the 2006 comedy ā in which stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt all reportedly earned $12.5 million to reprise their roles ā enjoyed the third-best domestic debut of the year.

In third was the Michael Jackson biopic, āMichael,ā which earned $8.8 million on its third Friday in theaters.

The film has made history as the second music biopic to surpass the $500 million mark globally after āBohemian Rhapsody,ā based on the life of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, as per Screen Rant.
āBillie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft ā The Tour Live in 3D,ā a concert film featuring performances from the singerās 2025 tour, took fourth with a $4.5 million haul.
Eilish revealed that the idea for the concert film came from its co-director James Cameron, who āwrote an email to my mom because his wife is friends with my mom, or they had worked together,ā she told People.
