After 27 years on the network, Alex Witt is exiting MS NOW, bringing her long tenure as a weekend anchor to a close. The veteran journalist delivered her final broadcast on September 6, prompting tributes from colleagues who have worked alongside her throughout her tenure. Her exit will also bring a change to the weekend schedule, with Antonia Hylton set to succeed her.

Alex Witt is leaving MS NOW after 27 years with the network, bringing her run as one of its longtime weekend anchors to an end. Her final broadcast on Sunday, September 6, was preceded by tributes from several of her colleagues.

Ayman Mohyeldin paid tribute to Witt shortly before her final broadcast, highlighting both the length of her career and the qualities that made her a respected colleague. He wrote, “After nearly 30 years at MS NOW, Alex Witt is retiring. No other anchor has hosted more hours of news. … But Alex’s greatest quality isn’t her remarkable stamina. It is her humanity: her passion for journalism, her generosity toward her colleagues and the care she brings to everyone – and everything – around her.”

Additional tributes came from other journalists at the network. Ken Dilanian described Witt as a “calm, balanced, inquisitive presence on the air.” Meanwhile, Kelly O’Donnell highlighted her “calm, intelligent voice for viewers during every kind of breaking news.”

Her successor, Antonia Hylton, also recognized Witt during an appearance on Stephanie Ruhle’s Money, Power, Politics. Hylton referred to Witt as a “legend and the Mayor of MS NOW” before praising her ability to handle demanding news coverage.

Witt’s exit had been announced by MS NOW president Rebecca Kutler in June. In a staff memo, Kutler said Witt had decided to “conclude her tenure with the company later this year, following an extraordinary career.” Following her exit, Hylton will take over the weekend anchor position with The Assignment with Antonia Hylton. The new program begins September 12 and will air Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. ET.
