‘Only One Date’: Jill Biden Admits Joe Biden Didn’t Fit Her Dating Type; Says She Couldn’t ‘Imagine Connecting With Him’

Jill Biden and Joe Biden have been married for nearly five decades, but long before their fairy tale romance began, she was not excited to see him. During an episode of Dinner’s On Me with Jesse Tyler Ferguson, the former first lady opened up about her relationship with her husband.

She gave a rare insight into the beginning stages of their relationship and how she was not excited to go out with him. But she changed her mind after he managed to impress her and had another reason that made her fall for him.

Jill Biden Says Joe Biden Didn’t Fit Her Type in Guys

In the Sept. 1’s episode ofDinner’s On Me with Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jill Biden recalled that she was 23 years old when she met her future husband, Joe Biden, who was in his 30s at the time. She began, “So can you imagine? I mean, here I am, student teaching and going to the university.”

She recalled that he had called her one Saturday, and since it was the 1970s, most of the guys she used to date had long hair, clogs, and bell-bottoms. She said, “He called me and asked me for a date and he comes to the, and I accepted it. I mean, I had a date that I had to cancel.”

Biden noted that she accepted his offer because she thought that she might find him “interesting,” because he was so different from the guys she usually went out with. “So I open the door, and I took one look at his perfect suit and his leather loafers, and I thought, ‘Thank God, this is only one date,’” she said. “Because I just couldn’t imagine connecting with him.”

The date turned out to be great for the former first lady because she found him immensely “interesting” and “charming.” And before she could realize it, the two had already started dating each other.

Joe Biden’s Sons Convinced Jill Biden to Be Their Mother

Interestingly, more than Joe Biden’s charm, she fell in love with his two sons, Hunter Biden and Beau Biden. Previously, he was married to Neilia Hunter, but she passed away with their daughter, Naomi Biden, in a tragic car crash in 1972. In the same episode of Dinner’s On Me with Jesse Tyler Ferguson, she said, “Joe’s okay with my saying this, but I really fell in love with the boys first.”

Furthermore, it was his sons who had convinced her to get married to their father. She recalled, “They were the ones that went into Joe and said one morning, when he was shaving, they said, ‘Dad, we think we want to marry Jill.’”

She emphasized that she loved the two boys so much that she believed that their marriage had to work out, and they could “never get divorced.” She reasoned, “They had already lost one mother through death, and I could never hurt them by leaving, by divorcing Joe.”

Luckily, everything had worked out for the couple, and together they welcomed their daughter, Ashley Biden, in 1981. However, the Biden family is undergoing a difficult period of time, asJoe Biden is battling Stage 4 cancer, which has metastasized to his bones. Consequently, this makes his fight more complicated and emotionally draining for his wife and children.
