Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Reportedly Share This “Area of Concern” About Their Move Back to the U.K.

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet arrived in the U.K. on August 26 after news broke about their surprising plans to move back the week prior.

As Archie and Lilibet prepare to attend school, Harry and Meghan intend to take part in the school run, which “is absolutely the biggest area of concern” for the couple, a friend told The Telegraph.

“It creates the most dangers,” the friend added.

Security remains a chief concern for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after they made a surprise move back to the U.K. late last month alongside their children Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5.

According to a new report from The Telegraph, the school run in particular presents the “most dangers” to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Archie and Lilibet are set to attend a U.K. school imminently, and the family is living in a private, non-royal residence outside of London. Neither the children’s school nor where the family is living has been made public, and the Sussexes continue to wait for answers from the Home Office about whether they will receive any type of taxpayer-funded police protection. Harry and Meghan gave up that police protection in 2020, when they stepped back from their working royal roles and relocated to Montecito, California.

According to The Telegraph, Harry believes that he is being denied protection as a form of “punishment” for leaving his working royal role and that the delay in responding to his change in circumstances now that he is back in the U.K. is a form of “game play,” the outlet reported.

The school run “is absolutely the biggest area of concern,” a friend told The Telegraph. “It creates the most dangers.” Harry and Meghan “intend to continue to do the school run themselves as often as possible, just as they did in Montecito,” the publication reported. Meghan herself spoke of doing the U.K. school run in a 2022 interview with The Cut, where she said that “she’d never be able to do school pickup and drop-off without it being a royal photo call with a press pen of 40 people snapping pictures,” The Cut reported.

“Sorry, I have a problem with that,” Meghan said. “That doesn’t make me obsessed with privacy. That makes me a strong and good parent protecting my child.”

Scott Hamer, who worked in the Metropolitan Police’s royalty and specialist protection unit for 14 years until 2022—and who specifically served King Charles as a personal protection officer for five years—told The Telegraph, “If there is a credible threat to him [Harry] and his family, it should be objectively assessed. If there is a genuine risk, the state should provide protection. If not, then fine, but let him know.”

Harry has spent years fighting to regain his police protection, and previously said that without it, he didn’t feel safe bringing his family to his home country. According to The Telegraph, Harry believes that his family’s return to the U.K. marks a “significant change in circumstances” that should prompt a new evaluation regarding his security.
