"I made a terrible judgment call": Amanda Hirsch issues apology for using Lindsay Clancy trial in betting advertisement

Amanda Hirsch has expressed her apology following severe criticism for promoting Polymarket while discussing the Lindsay Clancy case.

The 37-year-old, who is the creator of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast and the host of Get Real, posted a sponsored tweet on Sept. 4 after a mistrial was declared in the case.

The post included the prediction by Polymarket about the verdict and also disclosed that Amanda Hirsch was a partner.

It didn't take long for her to receive flak. Amanda Hirsch took down the post soon after, and apologized via Instagram following the controversy with comments disabled.

“Posting about the Lindsay Clancy trial in the same breath as a brand partnership was completely insensitive, wrong, and out of character for me. I should have known better, and I feel sick that I didn’t see that in the moment.”

According to Amanda Hirsch, she had been following the situation very closely, and was so engrossed with the incident that she didn't realize how wrong it was.

“As a mom, this case has really affected me. I’ve been following it so closely, talking about it constantly, and feeling heartbroken over every part of it. I became so consumed by the trial that I completely lost perspective and didn’t stop to think about how grossly inappropriate it was to discuss something this tragic in that context.”

Amanda Hirsch added that even though she deleted her post, it didn't change what she had done and called her action as a bad judgment. She concluded by saying:

“I made a terrible judgment call and I feel so [redacted] awful about that. I know deleting it doesn’t erase it. Believe me, I’m horrified by the choice I made and please know this lapse in judgment does not represent who I am as a person. I am so deeply sorry.”

Before making the post, Hirsch had already expressed her opinions on the trial, sympathizing with Clancy while simultaneously reminding everyone of the death of her three children.

The podcast host responded to online allegations against Patrick Clancy, stating that there were worries about misinformation.

The apology comes after Amanda Hirsch posted an ad for Polymarket, a website on which one can wager money on real-life situations, following the news that the case had ended in a mistrial on Sept. 4. She wrote in her now-deleted post:

“On Polymarket it was predicted the verdict would be Not Guilty. Are you surprised? #Polymarketpartner.”

The controversy comes as prediction markets such as Polymarket and Kalshi face growing scrutiny over their role in entertainment and news-related events.

Polymarket has previously drawn criticism after prediction markets revealed Survivor Season 50 results before the finale aired.
