Reese Witherspoon recently visited Dax Shepard’s podcast, where she gave a rare insight into her close friend and The Morning Show co-star Jennifer Aniston’s relationships with her exes, including Brad Pitt.
While discussing the way the public views Aniston, Witherspoon said she has previously become emotional defending her friend from assumptions about her personal life. “I’ve cried in one of our interviews ’cause I was like, I just think people are so unfair sometimes. That they think they know her and make assumptions,” Witherspoon said.
Shepard agreed, arguing that people often have a specific image of Aniston in their heads. “Well, they want her to play a certain character they’ve designed and any deviation from that cannot be computed,” he said. The visit came after Aniston's close circle shared their feelings on her current relationship.

He then addressed one of the most enduring narratives surrounding Aniston and her former husband Pitt.
“She’s not pining for Brad,” Shepard said. Witherspoon agreed and used Aniston’s 50th birthday party as an example of the kind of person she believes her friend really is.
“By the way, at her 50th birthday, one of the biggest testaments I can say to what a wonderful person she is,” Witherspoon said.
“People from her teenage years, people in her 20s, people who work in her home, every ex-husband, ex-boyfriend was there,” she continued. “She just is like a high spiritual integrity person."

“She’s not a burner of bridges,” Shepard reiterated. "Correct,” Witherspoon replied.
Aniston’s 50th birthday celebration took place in February 2019 at the Sunset Tower Hotel in Los Angeles and attracted a long list of famous guests. Pitt was also reported to have attended the party, which inevitably renewed interest in the former couple’s relationship.

Aniston and Pitt began dating in 1998 and made their red carpet debut together at the 1999 Emmy Awards. They married in 2000 before separating in 2005, with their split becoming one of Hollywood’s biggest celebrity stories at the time.
Despite their divorce, Aniston has remained on decent terms with Pitt, something Witherspoon presented as another example of her friend’s personality. “She’s always been really lovely and nurturing and warm and friendly and kind,” Witherspoon continued.
Witherspoon’s comments came as Aniston made her relationship with her new boyfriend, Jim Curtis, Instagram-official. The actress shared a black-and-white photograph of the pair hugging with her more than 44.6 million followers and referred to Curtis as “my love.” The post was captioned, “Happy birthday my love. Cherished.”
Meanwhile, Witherspoon and Aniston are preparing to return for the fifth and final season of The Morning Show. Apple TV announced on Thursday, July 23, that season five of the series will premiere in 2027 and will serve as the show’s final installment.

Aniston and Witherspoon will return as Alex Levy and Bradley Jackson, respectively, alongside Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Nicole Beharie and Jon Hamm. The final season will also feature several new faces, including Jeff Daniels, Reneé Rapp, Jesse Williams, Sean Hayes and Lizzy Caplan, with more cast members expected to be announced.
Aniston, 57, who also serves as an executive producer on the series, said she knew season five would be the last when production began. “Going in knowing it would be our last, we were so fortunate to craft the conclusion with intentionality, and honor these characters the way they deserve,” she said. “It’s been such a privilege to work with this insanely talented cast, and our extraordinary writers, producers and crew. We’ve become such a family, and we’re all so excited to share this final season.”
Witherspoon, 50, who is also an executive producer, called her nine years working on the series “the honor of a lifetime.”
