Ricki Lake turned ashes from her Malibu home into a green diamond necklace with personal and symbolic meaning

On Jan. 7, 2025, Lake's home burned down in the Los Angeles wildfires and she publicly mourned the loss of her "dream" residence, which she shared with husband Ross Burningham

Lake described the jewelry as "poetic" and said it represented how far she has come

Ricki Lake will always remember the place that she called home.

On Jan. 7, 2025, the actress lost her Malibu house to the catastrophic Los Angeles wildfires. While the structure is no longer standing, she worked with diamond company Eterneva to immortalize the meaningful place with a heartfelt piece of jewelry.

In an Instagram video shared on Friday, March 13, the former talk show host, 57, revealed that she had received a green diamond necklace containing the ashes from her former property.

The particles were collected from parts of her home that had significant meaning. That includes the main gate, the master bedroom (which was described as the "power point" for Lake and her late ex-husband, Christian Evans, who died by suicide in 2017, and her current husband, Ross Burningham), as well as the area in the backyard called the "ceremonial circle," where Evans' ashes were buried.

Lake also had the necklace customized with a phoenix inscribed on the back along with the date she lost her home.

"I will wear this with so much honor and pride and joy," she said while unboxing the special gift. "Yes we've lost so much, but we've gained a lot too."

In her caption, the Hairspray star called the jewelry "poetic" and "sentimental." She added, "Everything from where the ashes came from, the science behind it, and the finishing touches are so symbolic to my experience and proof that something beautiful can come from tragedy and sadness. Home is LITERALLY where the heart is."

After her house burned down, Lake wrote on Instagram that it was "exhausting and paralyzing" to think about building a new one. Before, she had described the location as her and her husband's "dream home," the place that felt like "heaven on earth" and where they had "planned to grow old together." In August 2019, she revealed that she bought the "sacred property" almost six years prior.

Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, Joshua Jackson, and Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag were among the stars who lost their homes in the tragedy.

Starting over for Lake hasn't just been about where she rests her head at night. Like many stars, she's been open about her recent cosmetic enhancements, which have included a neck and facelift.

This chapter of her plastic surgery journey followed her dramatic weight loss. Lake wrote on Instagram, "I had lost 40 lbs.ex- and did not like the extra skin that hung from below my chin. It was never going to tighten up on its own. Not at 55. Trust me, when I tell you, I still felt extra cute and loved myself regardless, especially after working so hard to get in the best shape of my life."
