Rob and Michele Reiner’s son Jake marries 8 months after his parents’ deaths

Jake Reiner and fiancée Maria Gilfillan have married.

He appeared to be wearing a wedding ring last week while giving his first interview since the deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner.

Jake, 35, said his parents had “unconditional love” for all of their kids.

Jake Reiner has married, eight months after the deaths of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele.

The younger Reiner tied the knot with Maria Gilfillan in a small ceremony in late August, PEOPLE confirmed.

While details about their relationship were unknown, he wore a wedding ring last week during an interview with Los Angeles new station ABC7. Reiner, 35, explained in that sit-down how he’s doing, following not only the shock of his parents’ deaths but the fact that his brother, Nick, has since been indicted on two counts of first-degree murder in the case.

“Nobody really understands what it’s like to go through something like that until you’re living it. It’s been eight months. It feels like eight years at the same time. And it also feels like eight minutes,” Reiner said. “Because every moment that I wake up, I’m reminded of my reality.”

In the same interview, Jake mentioned his parents’ love for Nick, 32, who had struggled with his mental health.

“My parents had unconditional love for all three of us,” Jake said about himself, Nick, and sister Romy, who’s 28. “I can tell you they never stopped wanting to help him. They never stopped helping him.”

Rob was also the father of actress Tracy Reiner, whom he shared with his ex-wife, late director Penny Marshall. She had appeared in movies including Marshall’s 1992 comedy A League of Their Own, in which she played Betty Spaghetti.

Jake said he learned the horrific news about his parents when his sister called him. He didn’t pick up at first.

“I thought at the time, I’m in the middle of something, you know, I’ll call her back,” Jake explained. “Then, she called immediately again, and I knew at that point that something was wrong.”

She said she found their father dead in their parents’ home, and she couldn’t find their mom.

“I immediately went into shock,” he said.

Earlier this month, both Jake and Romy testified before the grand jury that indicted their brother.

Nick has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder with special circumstances. He’s expected to be back in court on Sept. 15.
