Ryan Fitzpatrick tells PEOPLE about his favorite parts of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding

The former NFL star attended the glam nuptials with his wife, calling the wedding “unbelievable”

Fitzpatrick says he and his wife danced for over six hours and are still recovering

Ryan Fitzpatrick is still recovering from “six-plus hours of dancing” at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s star-studded New York City wedding, but he’s happy to be doing it on the golf course.

As the former NFL star and current Thursday Night Football analyst gets in his practice swings on Wednesday, July 8 ahead of the ACC Golf Championship presented by American Century Investments, Fitzpatrick is telling PEOPLE all the details from Swift and Kelce’s nuptials five days earlier.

The former Jets quarterback attended the wedding with his wife of 20 years, Liza, calling it “unbelievable.”

“We were very excited to get the invite and very privileged to be there,” he says, adding “they did everything top notch.”

A major moment, Fitzpatrick says, was seeing comedian Adam Sandler take the stage as the wedding officiant.

“When Adam Sandler walked out — it had everybody floored, that was really cool,” he says. “The ceremony was beautiful.”

Fitzpatrick, 43, says he and Liza are still in recovery mode.

“There was a LOT of dancing, hours and hours, we’re still kind of recovering from being out on that dance floor for six-plus hours,” he says. “My favorite moment was just I got to spend the night with my wife just on the dance floor, being around and being in it, so that was pretty magical for us.”

Once he gets loosened up, the former quarterback is aiming for glory on the golf course — if he can beat frequent ACC champions Steph Curry or Mardy Fish.

“We take it serious,” he says of the annual tournament, which features stars from the sports and entertainment worlds.

“And then after the first day reality sets in, and ... you’ll be out of contention by the first day except for about 5 or 6 guys,” Fitzpatrick says with a laugh. “So this is a really fun event and, you know, part of it is a camaraderie with the other athletes and celebrities and comedians and everybody that’s in this, but a lot of it is with the fans too, them coming out and supporting and just having a good time with them.”
