Ryan Reynolds Is Turning 50, but He Has No Interest in a Blowout Birthday Party

Ryan Reynolds is approaching one of Hollywood's favorite excuses for an enormous party. He would apparently prefer everyone keep the celebration considerably smaller.
The actor turns 50 on October 23, but told PEOPLE that reaching the milestone has not inspired him to plan a giant event centered on himself.
“I'm good. I get enough attention,” Reynolds said while discussing the birthday at the New York premiere of his Apple TV movie Mayday. Having just walked a red carpet, he joked that he was already receiving plenty.
That celebrations are not scarce at home. Reynolds and Blake Lively are already moving through what he calls “Birthday Alley,” a crowded stretch of family birthdays, their wedding anniversary and repeated rounds of balloons and cake.
Reynolds Says 50 Does Not Require a Huge Party
Reynolds said the number itself does not trouble him. He does not view getting older as bad news and said he does not “bemoan” birthdays when they arrive.
What he dislikes is the assumption that a milestone birthday should automatically turn into an enormous gathering in his honor. For someone whose work already puts him in front of cameras, crowds and premiere audiences, another room full of attention is not especially tempting.

He has been considerably more willing to joke about the milestone. During recent Mayday promotion with Kenneth Branagh, Reynolds riffed about cosmetic procedures and aging, including joking that his face was “scaffolding.”
His Family Is Already in ‘Birthday Alley’
Reynolds recently told PEOPLE that the household enters a 113 day run of celebrations beginning in late August and continuing into December.
Lively turned 39 on August 25, which Reynolds called the family's “Super Bowl” in an Instagram tribute. Their wedding anniversary follows on September 9, while three of their four children's birthdays and Reynolds' October 23 birthday keep the calendar crowded through the fall.
He described the stretch as “one giant mosh pit celebration of balloons and confetti,” joking about the repeated cycle of filling balloons, emptying them and then doing it all again. By the time his own birthday arrives, the Reynolds household will already be well into the routine.
He Made the Birthday Comments While Promoting ‘Mayday’
Reynolds made the comments while attending the September 1 New York premiere of Mayday, his new action comedy with Kenneth Branagh.
Apple TV describes Reynolds' character, Lieutenant Troy “Assassin” Kelly, as a U.S. Navy pilot whose secret Cold War mission in Russian territory collapses. Stranded behind enemy lines, he ends up relying on former KGB agent Nikolai Ustinov, played by Branagh.
The film comes from writers and directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein and also stars Maria Bakalova, Marcin Dorociński and David Morse. Mayday began streaming globally on Apple TV on September 4.
