Ryan Reynolds is hinting at how he might spend his milestone 50th birthday.

While attending the premiere of his new film, Mayday, at the Lincoln Center AMC in New York City on Monday, Aug. 31, the actor, 49, spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about how his family celebrates birthdays.

He is set to celebrate his 50th on Oct. 23, but admitted that he’d rather not have a big extravaganza.

“I don’t like birthdays. I mean, I’m fine with it,” he told PEOPLE. “I don’t bemoan a birthday, but I’m not like, ‘Hey, let’s have a huge party for me.’ ”

The Deadpoolstar added, “I’m good. I get enough attention. I was just on a red carpet. This is plenty.”

The candid comment comes after his wife, Blake Lively, celebrated her 39th birthday on Aug. 25. Reynolds marked the occasion by sharing a sweet tribute on Instagram.

“August 25th is this family’s Super Bowl™️. Happy Birthday to the very best human I know,” he captioned snaps of him and Lively. “You’re not just another courageous and deeply kind genius. You’re also unreasonably cute.”

“I know how lucky I am that you were born. Every time I’ve ever hit my head, it’s YOUR life that flashes before my eyes,” he concluded.

Reynolds and Lively’s eldest child, James, turns 12 in December, while daughter Inez turns 10 in September and daughter Betty turns 7 in October. Their son Olin’s fourth birthday is in February.

“I’m in Birthday Alley. My kids, we have about four of our family members all just back-to-back to back-to-back,” he said. “It’s Birthday Alley, and it goes right on into Christmas. Ceaseless.”

“Basically, yeah, to my 50th birthday. I mean, crazy,” he continued. “I’m mostly breathing in helium all day, filling balloons, emptying balloons, filling more balloons. That is Birthday Alley.”

The birthdays coincide with Reynolds celebrating the release of his new action-comedy, Mayday, in which he plays a U.S. Navy fighter pilot whose plane goes down over Soviet Russia during a secret mission in 1987.

Mayday began streaming on Apple TV on Sept. 4.
