What's the deal with meeting up with old friends?

Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Larry David all got together on Christmas Eve and no doubt made one another laugh. Seinfeld and Louis-Dreyfus posted pics to Instagram late Sunday night, sending longtime fans of their work into spirals of happiness, if the multitude of likes is any indicator.

Seinfeld wrote "The creatures were stirring
Christmas Eve 2025" while "Official JLD" wrote "Christmas Eve with some friends." David said nothing, but he does look like he's having a very nice time — a rarity for him!

These three individuals all know one another from an old job they had — making the television program called Seinfeld. Perhaps you have heard of it? It ran from 1989 to 1998, and will remain in syndication long after our sun's fiery furnace finally gives out. It was created by Seinfeld and David, and is loosely based on their own lives. Seinfeld played an exaggerated version of himself, a successful "d'ja ever notice?"-style comedian, and David's persona was transformed into the neurotic mess George Costanza, played by Jason Alexander. Louis-Dreyfus played Elaine Benes, Jerry's ex-girlfriend who dances poorly and inadvertently steals intellectual property from Tom Wilson II, the creator of Ziggy.

Both Louis-Dreyfus and Seinfeld have appeared on David's post-Seinfeld series Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Louis-Dreyfus and David have both been on Seinfeld's post-Seinfeld series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Neither Seinfeld nor David were ever on Louis-Dreyfus's post-Seinfeld series Veep. What's the deal with that?

The images are delightful because it is nice to see our TV friends as real-life friends. But it does lead to some follow-up questions? Whose house was this? What was served? Did anyone double-dip a chip? Who brought babka? Where was Jason Alexander? Where was Michael Richards? Where was Puddy? Did everyone gossip about Cheryl Hines and her husband?

One would imagine that these images have executives at NBC salivating at the thought of some kind of Seinfeld reunion, but that's not likely to happen anytime soon. In 2021, Seinfeld, who keeps busy with a touring schedule and eating cereal, said he wasn't interested.

Though he understood the draw of nostalgia, calling himself "a nostalgia person," he added, "I like to go forward in life. I believe that going forward. I don't know what we would do that would be good."

Reflecting on the series, he summed up, saying, "I think we did a good job."

But that was 2021! Who knows what the future brings? Who ever thought the crew of the Enterprise-D would ever get together again, as they did on the third season of Star Trek: Picard. Who ever thought the band Rush would tour again, as Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee announced they would some months ago? We're sure we could think of some other examples that don't delight Gen X computer dorks, but that's kinda where our head is at right now.

Seinfeld is currently streaming on Netflix.
