Spotify just released its "most requested" update, the music streaming platform announced on Wednesday, July 8.

Spotify unveiled an update that allows users to pin up to 20 playlists, albums, artists, podcasts and audiobooks to the top of their profile library. Previously, users were only able to pin up to four items, with Liked Songs, New Episodes (for podcasts) and Your Episodes (also for podcasts) being the default.

The update comes a few months after Spotify celebrated its 20th anniversary. The celebrations featured the launch of a personalized look at user music history, including a user's first day on Spotify, first streamed song, most-streamed artist and an All-Time Top Songs Playlist.

Here's a step-by-step guide for pinning playlists, albums, artists, podcasts and audiobooks at the top of a profile library, when using the mobile app:

Open Spotify

Click Your Library at the bottom of the screen

Press and hold on an item

Click Pin playlist/album/artist/podcast/audiobook

Using Spotify on a desktop? The feature is still available. On the left side of the screen, open Your Library. To pin an item, right click on the item and select "pin."

To unpin an item from the top of a profile library, when using the mobile app:

Press and hold on a pinned item

Click Unpin playlist/album/artist/podcast/audiobook

What are Spotify users saying about the update?

The new update has received a mixed response from Spotify users.

"Life changing for me (I have over 500 playlists)," one user commented on Spotify's X post announcing the update. "One of the best decisions ever. Thank you Spotify!," another said.

While some are excited, others think the update came too late.

"The product team should be embarrassed that this took so long," one Threads user commented on Spotify's post.

And a few hope the streaming platform will address other "wants," including the option to remove podcasts and audiobooks from the platform for those who are just interested in using Spotify for listening to music.

"Give us the option to get rid of podcasts and audiobooks, also a light mode would be nice for daytime selection," another user commented.
