Tamar Braxton is responding to rumors she had an affair with sister Toni's husband Birdman
She spoke about the rumor on a new episode of Sherri
"Where did that rumor come from? That is preposterous," said the "Love & War" singer
Tamar Braxton would like to clear some things up.
In a new interview on Sherri, the singer and TV personality, 48, addressed rumors she had an affair with rapper Birdman, who's been married to Tamar's eldest sister Toni for more than a year.
The topic arose as host Sherri Shepherd brought up a recent episode of The Braxtons where Tamar's sister Towanda accused her of having relations with one of Toni's ex-flames, whom some fans assumed was Birdman, 56.
"Where did that rumor come from? That is preposterous," said Tamar on Shepherd's talk show, before explaining her close friendship with Birdman, whose real name is Bryan Williams.
"The truth is I introduced Toni to her husband. Bryan and I were friends first, like, real platonic friends," said the "Love & War" musician. "He was actually dating one of my friends a long time ago. When they broke up, Brian and I became really good friends because [he] and [Ronald Jay 'Slim' Williams] wanted to sign me to Cash Money Records. This was a long time ago."
"And so then he started speaking to me about my sister," she added.
Tamar continued, "So when Toni got a divorce [from ex-husband Keri Lewis in 2016], he was serious about her and, you know, made his way in."
Toni, 58, and Birdman started dating in 2016 after many years of friendship. She announced their engagement in February 2018, though it was briefly called off before they sparked reconciliation rumors the following year.
In April 2025, TMZ confirmed Braxton filed for divorce via court documents, two weeks after her wedding. In the docs, she listed their date of separation to be Aug. 10, 2024 — just two days after saying "I do."

Five months later, however, she dismissed the divorce petition, which Birdman signed off on.
Elsewhere in Tamar's Sherri interview, she said the rumor of an affair between herself and Birdman made her feel "upset."
"That’s my brother. Now, he’s my brother-in-law," she said.

Tamar explained she and Birdman have always been close, noting that she accompanied him to a recent Verzuz battle — where she was seen because Toni wasn't able to attend.
She also viewers on the current state of her sisterly relationships. "I think we're in a healthy space. Ithink that everyone has taken accountability for their part in what happened, I think, publicly and privately," said the star. "And I think now it's time for healing, whatever that looks like."
