TimothƩe Chalamet surprised fans at a Dune: Part Three Global IMAX Fan Event on July 8, joining director Denis Villeneuve and moderator Brittany Broski

In concluding the Dune trilogy, Chalamet ā€œfelt like I was losing a part of me,ā€ he shared

TimothƩe Chalamet is reflecting on almost a decade of Dune.

Appearing at aDune: Part Three July 8 Global IMAX Fan Event to unveil the new trailer in Los Angeles, Chalamet, 30, called it ā€œthe most emotive on a personal levelā€ out of the sci-fi trilogy.

ā€œI don’t know what my favorite scene to shoot was in this movie,ā€ Chalamet said in a Brittany Broski-moderated Q&A with Denis Villeneuve, writer-director of the Dune movies.

ā€œI’ve been living with this for so long,ā€ said the actor, who was cast as Paul Atreides in 2018 ahead of 2021’s Dune: Part One. ā€œI’m so proud to live with it. I’m so proud to work with Denis and this family. So I felt there was a finality in the exercise that I was kind of nostalgic about, even in the moment, even though I was 29 when we shot this.ā€

He added, ā€œI still felt like I was losing a part of me by getting through it.ā€

The upcoming installment, costarring Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Anya Taylor-Joy and Robert Pattinson, picks up where 2024’s Dune: Part Two left off, with Paul amassing power on the desert planet Arrakis and forcibly taking the emperor’s throne. While the first two movies were adapted from Frank Herbert’s 1965 debut novel, the trilogy conclusion draws from 1969’s Dune Messiah.

Chalamet felt ā€œmelancholic to be moving on from this incredible family, incredible crew,ā€ he recalled. ā€œI just couldn’t believe how quickly the experience came and went.ā€

Asked for a creative risk that he was proud the Dune team didn’t compromise on, Chalamet said, ā€œThe concepts in this movie are out there. And I don’t think we ever had a comedic point of view, for lack of a better expression, about it. I think everyone took it at face value. It’s hard not to.ā€

The ā€œsincerity of the approachā€ endured on set for all three movies, he added, pointing to Villeneuve, 58. ā€œAnd that starts with this man.ā€

Calling Chalamet ā€œreally impressiveā€ in Dune: Part Three, the Canadian filmmaker charted the actor’s progress across the trilogy. ā€œIn the first movie, it’s like a young boy discovering a planet. Second one, someone becoming an adult. And now he really did create something very special.ā€

As for what advice they’d each give themselves if they could go back in time to the start of this long cinematic journey? ā€œSleep as much as you can,ā€ quipped Villeneuve.

ā€œI would tell myself to savor it,ā€ said Chalamet. ā€œJust to try to realize how rare it is to work on something of a high artistic level.ā€

Dune: Part Three is in theaters Dec. 18.
