Viola Davis is rooting for Sinners' success at the upcoming 2026 Oscars on March 15
Davis previously went viral following her ecstatic reaction while presenting an award to Sinners star Michael B. Jordan at the Actor Awards on March 1
Sinners broke a record for most total nominations (16) for one movie in Oscars history
Viola Davis is pulling for Sinners at the 2026 Oscars.
Davis, 60, told Andy Cohen during an appearance on SiriusXM's Andy Cohen Live that she is rooting for the movie's writer-director Ryan Coogler, its star Michael B. Jordan and the film's record 16 Oscar nominations at the 98th Academy Awards on Sunday, March 15.
"I'm one of those that — I just have an aversion towards award shows," Davis, who appeared on Cohen's program to promote her new novel with James Patterson, Judge Stone, said, when asked if she believes Sinners will "take it all" at the Oscars.
"When you have an EGOT, you can have an aversion to award shows," Cohen responded. "You're not that hungry anymore."
"Which is sort of hypocritical of me because I'll take it if they give it to me," Davis added. "But I would be extremely happy if they take the award. I think that there are a lot of wonderful performances out there, but I would be very happy if Sinners took everything."

Davis' new comments on Sinners come 11 days after she went viral for cheering on Jordan, 39, onstage at the Actor Awards when she presented him with the March 1 awards ceremony's prize for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his work in the film.

Jordan's win at the Actor Awards was something of a surprise, and Davis' emotional reaction to the moment went viral after she could be heard celebrating through a microphone on stage for several seconds. (A YouTube video of Jordan's awards win and acceptance speech shared by Netflix has been viewed more than 1.3 million times since March 1.)

“Michael B. Jordan is an incredible human and an incredible leader. It’s extremely exciting what he’s going to become," Davis recently said of Jordan, while speaking with Variety. "Now he’s getting into directing, and he is going to bring African American filmmaking into a beautiful place.”

Jordan won his first (and second) major prizes of this awards season when he won the Actor Award for his dual performance in the vampire film as twins Smoke and Stack. The actor also shared a win with the rest of the movie's cast when they won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
Sinners, which has the most nominations of any movie at this year's Academy Awards, also won three awards at the 2026 British Academy Film Awards on Feb. 22 and became the most decorated movie by a Black director in BAFTAs history.
