In a sure harbinger of winter nights to come, we need to start thinking about turning back the clocks.
When do clocks fall back in 2026?
Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. local time on Sunday, Nov. 1.
That means when the clock strikes 2 a.m., clocks will turn backwards to 1 a.m., returning to Standard Time from Daylight Saving Time.
Due to the time change, as the days get shorter, there also will be more light in the morning and less light in the evening, with sunset coming earlier and earlier until the winter solstice on Dec. 21, when the days will slowly begin getting longer again.
Daylight Saving Time began this year at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8, when we sprung ahead one hour.

Congress.gov says "By shifting clock-based schedules at scale, proponents hope to make use of sunlight in many locations during more of the hours when people are typically active."
Daylight Saving Time was first instituted in 1918, although the regulations governing it have changed multiple times. Two of those times included "War Time" that assisted the war efforts during World War II, and during the 1970s oil embargo. According to timeanddate.com, the current schedule was introduced in 2007 and it follows the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
Typically, Daylight Saving Time starts on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November, according to timeanddate.com.
Most states use Daylight Saving Time, with the exception of Hawaii and most of Arizona.
